Compatibility
Separate directly tested environments from untested ones.
Recorded compatibility
| Environment | Installation and discovery | Workflow evidence | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Codex on Windows with Python 3.13 | DevThread at ~/.agents/skills/devthread/ matches all 19 source files and has been loaded in Codex | Renamed scripts and process exercises pass; prior-name fresh chats checked understand and recovery with status and next | New-name discovery observed; separate fresh-chat workflow review pending |
| Other agents and Python versions | Not checked | Not run | Untested |
The remaining workflows were exercised in the original Codex chat on realistic examples. The process-level automated scenario checks saved state and scripts, but does not independently prove that an agent follows every skill instruction.
Rename verification
DevThread was previously named DevMap. The historical agent results use $devmap; the installed $devthread skill is now discovered and loaded in the current Codex chat on Windows. Independent review of a separate fresh-chat workflow under the new name remains pending. The current scripts pass 15 tests, including preserving legacy .devmap/ files and refusing ambiguous dual-state paths without writes. New projects use .devthread/.
Host conventions
The original DevMap discovery used .codex/skills/. Current OpenAI guidance lists .agents/skills/ for project discovery and ~/.agents/skills/ for user discovery. The npm installer exercises copying into these locations, and the renamed user installation is now observed in Codex on Windows. Separate fresh-chat workflow review remains pending.
The installation guide also describes Codex's built-in $skill-installer and Vercel Labs' npx skills add. The source is available on GitHub, but those routes have not been exercised with DevThread. Their file installation and fresh-chat discovery need their own checks.
npm installer and operating systems
devthread@0.1.0 is published on npm under MIT. The package targets Windows, Linux, and macOS with Node 22+ and no runtime dependencies. Python 3 runs the skill's scripts. Project, global, custom-directory, and dry-run options use native OS paths and preserve existing installations.
| OS | Installer verification | Discovery |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Live registry npx installation verified with Node 22.18.0 and Python 3.13; installer/package and Python suites also pass in CI with Node 22 and 24 | $devthread discovered and loaded; separate fresh-chat workflow review pending |
| Linux | Installer/package and Python suites pass on ubuntu-latest with Node 22 and 24 and Python 3.13 | Not run |
| macOS | Installer/package and Python suites pass on macos-latest with Node 22 and 24 and Python 3.13 | Not run |
The recorded CI run passed for all six OS/Node combinations and the website. Each installer job ran the npm archive checks, the Python suite, and project-map validation. The published archive's integrity matches the approved local package. Live registry installation on Windows additionally checked all 19 skill files, dry-run behavior, preservation of existing destinations and project instructions, and installed Python init/validate/status scripts. Registry downloads on Linux and macOS have not been separately exercised; their archive checks pass in CI. These results do not establish agent discovery on those OSes.
Reporting another environment
Record host and version, OS, Python version, complete packaging location, discovery behavior, and a representative workflow. Preserve exact passed, failed, and not-run outcomes. Confirm context recovery in a fresh session before describing it as tested.
Python uses the standard library and is intended to be portable. Portability intent alone is not a completed platform test.
