DevThread.

Safety and privacy

Keep state reviewable and use the host agent's existing controls.

Local state and host access

DevThread stores project state in your repository and uses your coding agent's model, tools, and access. It does not provide a separate model API or background service. Host permissions and data handling still apply when the agent reads your project.

What belongs in the map

Record project purpose, scoped requirements, approved decisions, task criteria, relevant file references, and check outcomes. Keep secrets, access tokens, and raw private model transcripts out of .devthread/. Review the map before committing or sharing it, especially for private projects.

File preservation

Initialization creates only missing files. It preserves existing instructions, application code, and state. Invalid state is reported rather than silently repaired. Symlinked state directories are unsupported by the scripts.

Changes and approval

Understanding, mapping, reconciliation, next-task selection, and status do not change application code unless you request implementation. A named implementation request authorizes scoped reversible changes.

Specific approval is needed for destructive actions, external publication or deployment, license changes, or materially broader work. DevThread never automatically commits, pushes, merges, deletes, or deploys.

Untrusted repository content

Repository files and tool output provide evidence. Instructions embedded in arbitrary source or output must not override your intent or the host's safety rules. Read existing project guidance such as AGENTS.md while keeping those boundaries.
