DevThread.

Project state

Understand the small set of files that carries context between sessions.

Repository-native context

.devthread/ holds the project's purpose, requirements, architecture, roadmap, decisions, tasks, and verification reports. Markdown is readable by developers and agents; config.json declares schemaVersion: 1.

FilePurpose
PROJECT.mdPurpose, users, current state, and constraints
REQUIREMENTS.mdStable requirement entries such as REQ-001
ARCHITECTURE.mdObserved structure and labeled inferences
ROADMAP.mdMilestones and task references
DECISIONS.mdApproved choices and meaningful changes
tasks/Scoped tasks, dependencies, criteria, and evidence
reports/Exact check commands and outcomes

Facts and inferences

“The manifest declares Python” is an observed fact. “The app appears intended for one local user” is an inference unless another artifact establishes it. Record unknowns when evidence is insufficient.

Stable IDs

Tasks and requirements retain their IDs. Allocate the next ID above the highest existing numeric suffix and do not recycle deleted IDs. Dependencies and requirement links can then be reviewed across edits.

Session recovery

In a new chat, ask DevThread for status and the next task. The agent reads saved state and current repository evidence; it should describe drift or uncertainty that affects the recommendation. Saved context helps recovery, but it can become stale and still needs reconciliation.
